Cranksgiving Philly, a bicycle-powered food drive, was held November 16, 2024 and challenged participants to donate food to Philabundance, our region's largest non-profit food bank. 129 individual riders registered at the start of the event to participate in Cranksgiving's Fun Ride, Checkpoint Race, or Points Race, in which they competed in various categories. The goal was to raise 2,000 lbs of food and $1,000 in donations.

By the end of the day, Philabundance confirmed, Cranksgiving participants donated a grand total of 6,273 pounds of food using zero trucks, cars, or carbon emissions. In addition, $865 were raised and donated directly to Philabundance to support their operations.

In the Fun Ride, anyone could participate in any way that best suited them.

In the Checkpoint Race, participants would need to retrieve a grocery item from each grocer on a secret manifest. The first to return from each category would win.

In the Points Race, participants across a variety of categories would earn a score based on the total weight donated, how many stores they shopped at, and how many runs they made.

A special challenge incentivized collecting the most apples.

Don K became the six-time Cranksgiving Philly champion by single-handedly collecting and donating 812 pounds of food over 13 runs to Grocery Outlet on a fixed-gear bicycle.

As first time organizers, we learned a lot. We're really excited to bring Cranksgiving back in 2025 by repeating what worked well and making improvements based on lessons we learned.
